Content of Surah Ad-Duha

1. Assurance of Allah's Love:

The Surah begins with Allah addressing the Prophet Muhammad (peace be upon him), saying, "By the morning brightness and [by] the night when it covers with darkness, your Lord has not taken leave of you, [O Muhammad], nor has He detested [you]" (Quran 93:1-3). These verses reassure the Prophet of Allah's continued support and love.

2. Encouragement and Gratitude:

Allah then reminds the Prophet of His favors, saying, "And the Hereafter is better for you than the first [life]. And your Lord is going to give you, and you will be satisfied" (Quran 93:4-5). This is an encouragement for gratitude, reminding the Prophet of the blessings he will receive both in this world and the Hereafter.

3. Hardships and Comfort:

The Surah acknowledges the Prophet's difficult moments, stating, "Did He not find you an orphan and give [you] refuge? And He found you lost and guided [you], and He found you poor and made [you] self-sufficient" (Quran 93:6-8). These verses highlight Allah's role in alleviating the hardships of the Prophet's early life.

4. Sharing the Blessings:

بِسۡمِ ٱللَّهِ ٱلرَّحۡمَٰنِ ٱلرَّحِيمِ

Bismillah hir rahman nir raheem

In the name of Allah, the Entirely Merciful, the Especially Merciful.

 

Yusuf Ali:
In the name of Allah, The Most Gracious and The Most Merciful

Abul Ala Maududi:
In the name of Allah, the Merciful, the Compassionate

Muhsin Khan:
In the name of Allah, The Most Gracious and The Most Merciful

Pickthall:
In the name of Allah, the Beneficent, the Merciful.

Dr. Ghali:
In The Name of Allah, The All-Merciful, The Ever-Merciful

Abdul Haleem:
In the name of God, the Lord of Mercy, the Giver of Mercy!

Muhammad Junagarhi:
شروع کرتا ہوں اللہ تعالیٰ کے نام سے جو بڑا مہربان نہایت رحم واﻻ ہے

Suhel Farooq Khan:
अल्लाह के नाम से जो रहमान रहीम है।

Abdullah Muhammad Basmeih:
Dengan nama Allah, Yang Maha Pemurah, lagi Maha Mengasihani.

وَٱلضُّحَىٰ

1.     Wad duhaa

By the morning brightness

 

Yusuf Ali:
By the Glorious Morning Light,

Abul Ala Maududi:
By the bright forenoon,

Muhsin Khan:
By the forenoon (after sun-rise);

Pickthall:
By the morning hours

Dr. Ghali:
And (by) the forenoon,

Abdul Haleem:
By the morning brightness

Muhammad Junagarhi:
قسم ہے چاشت کے وقت کی

Suhel Farooq Khan:
(
रसूल) पहर दिन चढ़े की क़सम

Abdullah Muhammad Basmeih:
Demi waktu dhuha,

وَٱلَّيۡلِ إِذَا سَجَىٰ

2.     Wal laili iza sajaa

And [by] the night when it covers with darkness,

 

Yusuf Ali:
And by the Night when it is still,-

Abul Ala Maududi:
and by the night when it covers the world with peace:

Muhsin Khan:
And by the night when it is still (or darkens);

Pickthall:
And by the night when it is stillest,

Dr. Ghali:
And (by) the night when it (comes) with its dark stillness!

Abdul Haleem:
and by the night when it grows still,

Muhammad Junagarhi:
اور قسم ہے رات کی جب چھا جائے

Suhel Farooq Khan:
और रात की जब (चीज़ों को) छुपा ले

Abdullah Muhammad Basmeih:
Dan malam apabila ia sunyi-sepi –

مَا وَدَّعَكَ رَبُّكَ وَمَا قَلَىٰ

3.     Ma wad da’aka rabbuka wa ma qalaa
Your Lord has not taken leave of you, [O Muhammad], nor has He detested [you].

 

Yusuf Ali:
Thy Guardian-Lord hath not forsaken thee, nor is He displeased.

Abul Ala Maududi:
(O Prophet), your Lord has neither forsaken you, nor is He displeased.

Muhsin Khan:
Your Lord (O Muhammad (Peace be upon him)) has neither forsaken you nor hated you.

Pickthall:
Thy Lord hath not forsaken thee nor doth He hate thee,

Dr. Ghali:
In no way has your Lord disregarded you, and in no way has He disfavored you.

Abdul Haleem:
your Lord has not forsaken you [Prophet], nor does He hate you,

Muhammad Junagarhi:
نہ تو تیرے رب نے تجھے چھوڑا ہے اور نہ وه بیزار ہو گیا ہے

Suhel Farooq Khan:
कि तुम्हारा परवरदिगार तुमको छोड़ बैठा और ( तुमसे) नाराज़ हुआ

Abdullah Muhammad Basmeih:
(Bahawa) Tuhanmu (wahai Muhammad) tidak meninggalkanmu, dan Ia tidak benci (kepadamu, sebagaimana yang dituduh oleh kaum musyrik).

وَلَلۡأٓخِرَةُ خَيۡرٞ لَّكَ مِنَ ٱلۡأُولَىٰ

4.     Walal-aakhiratu khairul laka minal-oola
And the Hereafter is better for you than the first [life].

 

Yusuf Ali:
And verily the Hereafter will be better for thee than the present.

Abul Ala Maududi:
Indeed what is to come will be better for you than what has gone by.

Muhsin Khan:
And indeed the Hereafter is better for you than the present (life of this world).

Pickthall:
And verily the latter portion will be better for thee than the former,

Dr. Ghali:
And indeed the Hereafter will be more charitable (i.e., better) for you than the First (i.e., the present life).

Abdul Haleem:
and the future will be better for you than the past;

Muhammad Junagarhi:
یقیناً تیرے لئے انجام آغاز سے بہتر ہوگا

Suhel Farooq Khan:
और तुम्हारे वास्ते आख़ेरत दुनिया से यक़ीनी कहीं बेहतर है

Abdullah Muhammad Basmeih:
Dan sesungguhnya kesudahan keaadaanmu adalah lebih baik bagimu daripada permulaannya.

وَلَسَوۡفَ يُعۡطِيكَ رَبُّكَ فَتَرۡضَىٰٓ

5.     Wa la sawfa y’uteeka rabbuka fatarda
And your Lord is going to give you, and you will be satisfied.

 

Yusuf Ali:
And soon will thy Guardian-Lord give thee (that wherewith) thou shalt be well-pleased.

Abul Ala Maududi:
Verily your Lord will soon give you so amply that you will be well-pleased.

Muhsin Khan:
And verily, your Lord will give you (all i.e. good) so that you shall be well-pleased.

Pickthall:
And verily thy Lord will give unto thee so that thou wilt be content.

Dr. Ghali:
And indeed your Lord will eventually give you so that you will be satisfied.

Abdul Haleem:
your Lord is sure to give you so much that you will be well satisfied.

Muhammad Junagarhi:
تجھے تیرا رب بہت جلد (انعام) دے گا اور تو راضی (وخوش) ہو جائے گا

Suhel Farooq Khan:
और तुम्हारा परवरदिगार अनक़रीब इस क़दर अता करेगा कि तुम ख़ुश हो जाओ

Abdullah Muhammad Basmeih:
Dan sesungguhnya Tuhanmu akan memberikanmu (kejayaan dan kebahagiaan di dunia dan di akhirat) sehingga engkau reda – berpuas hati.

أَلَمۡ يَجِدۡكَ يَتِيمٗا فَـَٔاوَىٰ

6.     Alam ya jidka yateeman fa aawaa
Did He not find you an orphan and give [you] refuge?

 

Yusuf Ali:
Did He not find thee an orphan and give thee shelter (and care)?

Abul Ala Maududi:
Did He not find you an orphan and then gave you shelter?

Muhsin Khan:
Did He not find you (O Muhammad (Peace be upon him)) an orphan and gave you a refuge?

Pickthall:
Did He not find thee an orphan and protect (thee)?

Dr. Ghali:
Did He not find you an orphan, so He gave (you) an abode,

Abdul Haleem:
Did He not find you an orphan and shelter you?

Muhammad Junagarhi:
کیا اس نے تجھے یتیم پا کر جگہ نہیں دی

Suhel Farooq Khan:
क्या उसने तुम्हें यतीम पाकर (अबू तालिब की) पनाह दी (ज़रूर दी)

Abdullah Muhammad Basmeih:
Bukankah dia mendapati engkau yatim piatu, lalu la memberikan perlindungan?

وَوَجَدَكَ ضَآلّٗا فَهَدَىٰ

7.     Wa wa jadaka daal lan fahada
And He found you lost and guided [you],

 

Yusuf Ali:
And He found thee wandering, and He gave thee guidance.

Abul Ala Maududi:
Did He not find you unaware of the Right Way, and then directed you to it?

Muhsin Khan:
And He found you unaware (of the Quran, its legal laws, and Prophethood, etc.) and guided you?

Pickthall:
Did He not find thee wandering and direct (thee)?

Dr. Ghali:
And He found you erring, so He guided (you),

Abdul Haleem:
Did He not find you lost and guide you?

Muhammad Junagarhi:
اور تجھے راه بھوﻻ پا کر ہدایت نہیں دی

Suhel Farooq Khan:
और तुमको एहकाम से नावाकिफ़ देखा तो मंज़िले मक़सूद तक पहुँचा दिया

Abdullah Muhammad Basmeih:
Dan didapatiNya engkau mencari-cari (jalan yang benar), lalu Ia memberikan hidayah petunjuk (dengan wahyu – Al-Quran)?

وَوَجَدَكَ عَآئِلٗا فَأَغۡنَىٰ

8.     Wa wa jadaka ‘aa-ilan fa aghnaa
And He found you poor and made [you] self-sufficient.

 

Yusuf Ali:
And He found thee in need, and made thee independent.

Abul Ala Maududi:
And did He not find you in want, and then enriched you?

Muhsin Khan:
And He found you poor, and made you rich (selfsufficient with selfcontentment, etc.)?

Pickthall:
Did He not find thee destitute and enrich (thee)?

Dr. Ghali:
And He found you in want, so He enriched (you)?

Abdul Haleem:
Did He not find you in need and make you self-sufficient?

Muhammad Junagarhi:
اور تجھے نادار پاکر تونگر نہیں بنا دیا؟

Suhel Farooq Khan:
और तुमको तंगदस्त देखकर ग़नी कर दिया

Abdullah Muhammad Basmeih:
Dan didapatiNya engkau miskin, lalu Ia memberikan kekayaan?

فَأَمَّا ٱلۡيَتِيمَ فَلَا تَقۡهَرۡ

9.     Fa am mal yateema fala taqhar
So as for the orphan, do not oppress [him].

 

Yusuf Ali:
Therefore, treat not the orphan with harshness,

Abul Ala Maududi:
Therefore, be not harsh with the orphan;

Muhsin Khan:
Therefore, treat not the orphan with oppression,

Pickthall:
Therefor the orphan oppress not,

Dr. Ghali:
Then, as for the orphan, then do not subdue (him),

Abdul Haleem:
So do not be harsh with the orphan

Muhammad Junagarhi:
پس یتیم پر تو بھی سختی نہ کیا کر

Suhel Farooq Khan:
तो तुम भी यतीम पर सितम करना

Abdullah Muhammad Basmeih:
Oleh itu, adapun anak yatim maka janganlah engkau berlaku kasar terhadapnya,

وَأَمَّا ٱلسَّآئِلَ فَلَا تَنۡهَرۡ

10.  Wa am mas saa-ila fala tanhar
And as for the petitioner, do not repel [him].

 

Yusuf Ali:
Nor repulse the petitioner (unheard);

Abul Ala Maududi:
and chide not him who asks,

Muhsin Khan:
And repulse not the beggar;

Pickthall:
Therefor the beggar drive not away,

Dr. Ghali:
And as for the beggar, then do not scold (him);

Abdul Haleem:
and do not chide the one who asks for help;

Muhammad Junagarhi:
اور نہ سوال کرنے والے کو ڈانٹ ڈپٹ

Suhel Farooq Khan:
माँगने वाले को झिड़की देना

Abdullah Muhammad Basmeih:
Adapun orang yang meminta (bantuan pimpinan) maka janganlah engkau tengking herdik;

وَأَمَّا بِنِعۡمَةِ رَبِّكَ فَحَدِّثۡ

11.  Wa amma bi ni’mati rabbika fahad dith
But as for the favor of your Lord, report [it].
