It is a relatively short surah consisting of 25 verses and is part of the 30th Juz' (section) of the Quran. The surah is a powerful reminder of the Day of Judgment, the consequences of people's actions, and the ultimate accountability before Allah (God). It serves as a stark depiction of the events that will unfold when the universe undergoes cataclysmic changes during the Day of Judgment. The surah is not only a call to reflect on the signs of Allah's creation but also an admonition to recognize the importance of faith and righteous deeds.

Surah Al Inshiqaq in Arabic with Translation and Transliteration

Content of Surah Al-Inshiqaq

  1. The Splitting Open of the Universe: Surah Al-Inshiqaq begins by describing the cosmic events that will take place on the Day of Judgment. It vividly portrays the idea that the heavens will split open, the stars will lose their luster, the oceans will erupt, and the graves will be overturned. This imagery is meant to evoke a sense of awe and fear, reminding individuals of the immense power of Allah.
  2. Accountability for Deeds: The surah emphasizes that on the Day of Judgment, every person will be shown their deeds, both the good and the bad. It states that "So whoever does an atom's weight of good will see it, and whoever does an atom's weight of evil will see it." (Quran 99:7-8). This underscores the absolute justice of Allah, where no deed, no matter how small, will go unnoticed.
  3. The Records of Deeds: Surah Al-Inshiqaq mentions the concept of "as-suhuf" (the scrolls or records) in which the deeds of individuals are recorded. These records will be presented to every individual, and they will be compelled to read their own deeds. This concept serves as a reminder of the importance of personal responsibility and the fact that no one can escape the consequences of their actions.
  4. Different Reactions on the Day of Judgment: The surah goes on to describe the reactions of people when they see the consequences of their deeds. Some will be delighted to receive their record in their right hand, signifying their good deeds, and they will have an easy reckoning. Others, however, will be filled with regret and despair as they receive their record in their left hand, signifying their sins. This vivid portrayal encourages self-reflection and a realization of the consequences of one's choices in this life.
  5. The Reminder to Reflect: Throughout the surah, there is a recurring call to reflect on the signs of Allah's creation and the consequences of disbelief and wrongdoing. It invites people to ponder the world around them, the natural order, and the signs that point towards the existence and greatness of Allah.
