Bismillah hir rahman nir raheem

In the name of Allah, the Entirely Merciful, the Especially Merciful.

In the name of Allah, The Most Gracious and The Most Merciful

Abul Ala Maududi:
In the name of Allah, the Merciful, the Compassionate

Muhsin Khan:
In the name of Allah, The Most Gracious and The Most Merciful

Pickthall:
In the name of Allah, the Beneficent, the Merciful.

Dr. Ghali:
In The Name of Allah, The All-Merciful, The Ever-Merciful

Abdul Haleem:
In the name of God, the Lord of Mercy, the Giver of Mercy!

Muhammad Junagarhi:
شروع کرتا ہوں اللہ تعالیٰ کے نام سے جو بڑا مہربان نہایت رحم واﻻ ہے

Suhel Farooq Khan:
अल्लाह के नाम से जो रहमान रहीम है।

Abdullah Muhammad Basmeih:
Dengan nama Allah, Yang Maha Pemurah, lagi Maha Mengasihani.

وَٱلسَّمَآءِ وَٱلطَّارِقِ

1.         Wassamaaa’i wattaariq

By the sky and the night comer –

 

Yusuf Ali:
By the Sky and the Night-Visitant (therein);-

Abul Ala Maududi:
By the heaven, and the night-visitor,

Muhsin Khan:
By the heaven, and At-Tariq (the night-comer, i.e. the bright star);

Pickthall:
By the heaven and the Morning Star

Dr. Ghali:
And (by) the heaven and the Night Visitant! (Or: “The Morning Star; literally: The Rapper).

Abdul Haleem:
By the sky and the night-comer––

Muhammad Junagarhi:
قسم ہے آسمان کی اور اندھیرے میں روشن ہونے والے کی

Suhel Farooq Khan:
आसमान और रात को आने वाले की क़सम

Abdullah Muhammad Basmeih:
Demi langit dan “At-Taariq”; –

وَمَآ أَدۡرَىٰكَ مَا ٱلطَّارِقُ

2.         Wa maaa adraaka mattaariq

And what can make you know what is the night comer?

 

Yusuf Ali:
And what will explain to thee what the Night-Visitant is?-

Abul Ala Maududi:
what do you know what the night-visitor is?

Muhsin Khan:
And what will make you to know what At-Tariq (night-comer) is?

Pickthall:
– Ah, what will tell thee what the Morning Star is!

Dr. Ghali:
And what makes you realize what the Night Visitant is? (Or: “The Morning Star; literally: The Rapper).

Abdul Haleem:
What will explain to you what the night-comer is?

Muhammad Junagarhi:
تجھے معلوم بھی ہے کہ وه رات کو نمودار ہونے والی چیز کیا ہے؟

Suhel Farooq Khan:
और तुमको क्या मालूम रात को आने वाला क्या है

Abdullah Muhammad Basmeih:
Dan apa jalannya engkau dapat mengetahui apa dia “At-Taariq” itu? –

ٱلنَّجۡمُ ٱلثَّاقِبُ

3.         Annajmus saaqib

It is the piercing star –

 

Yusuf Ali:
(It is) the Star of piercing brightness;-

Abul Ala Maududi:
It is the piercing star.

Muhsin Khan:
(It is) the star of piercing brightness;

Pickthall:
– The piercing Star!

Dr. Ghali:
The Piercing Star!

Abdul Haleem:
The piercing star––

Muhammad Junagarhi:
وه روشن ستاره ہے

Suhel Farooq Khan:
(
वह) चमकता हुआ तारा है

Abdullah Muhammad Basmeih:
(At-Taariq) ialah bintang yang menembusi (sinaran cahayanya);

إِن كُلُّ نَفۡسٖ لَّمَّا عَلَيۡهَا حَافِظٞ

4.         In kullu nafsil lammaa ‘alaihaa haafiz

There is no soul but that it has over it a protector.

 

Yusuf Ali:
There is no soul but has a protector over it.

Abul Ala Maududi:
There is no living being but there is a protector over it.

Muhsin Khan:
There is no human being but has a protector over him (or her) (i.e. angels incharge of each human being guarding him, writing his good and bad deeds, etc.)

Pickthall:
No human soul but hath a guardian over it.

Dr. Ghali:
Decidedly over every self there is assuredly a Preserver.

Abdul Haleem:
there is a watcher over every soul.

Muhammad Junagarhi:
کوئی ایسا نہیں جس پر نگہبان فرشتہ نہ ہو

Suhel Farooq Khan:
(
इस बात की क़सम) कि कोई शख़्श ऐसा नहीं जिस पर निगेहबान मुक़र्रर नहीं

Abdullah Muhammad Basmeih:
Tiada sesuatu diri juapun melainkan ada malaikat yang menjaga (keadaannya serta menyimpan catitan mengenai segala bawaannya).

فَلۡيَنظُرِ ٱلۡإِنسَٰنُ مِمَّ خُلِقَ

5.         Fal yanzuril insaanu mimma khuliq
So let man observe from what he was created.

 

Yusuf Ali:
Now let man but think from what he is created!

Abul Ala Maududi:
So let man consider of what he was created.

Muhsin Khan:
So let man see from what he is created!

Pickthall:
So let man consider from what he is created.

Dr. Ghali:
So let man look into what he was created from;

Abdul Haleem:
Man should reflect on what he was created from.

Muhammad Junagarhi:
انسان کو دیکھنا چاہئے کہ وه کس چیز سے پیدا کیا گیا ہے

Suhel Farooq Khan:
तो इन्सान को देखना चाहिए कि वह किस चीज़ से पैदा हुआ हैं

Abdullah Muhammad Basmeih:
(Setelah mengetahui yang demikian), maka hendaklah manusia memikirkan: dari apa ia diciptakan.

خُلِقَ مِن مَّآءٖ دَافِقٖ

6.         Khuliqa mim maaa’in daafiq
He was created from a fluid, ejected,

 

Yusuf Ali:
He is created from a drop emitted-

Abul Ala Maududi:
He was created of a gushing fluid,

Muhsin Khan:
He is created from a water gushing forth.

Pickthall:
He is created from a gushing fluid

Dr. Ghali:
He was created from effusive water,

Abdul Haleem:
He is created from spurting fluid,

Muhammad Junagarhi:
وه ایک اچھلتے پانی سے پیدا کیا گیا ہے

Suhel Farooq Khan:
वह उछलते हुए पानी (मनी) से पैदा हुआ है

Abdullah Muhammad Basmeih:
Ia diciptakan dari air (mani) yang memancut (ke dalam rahim) –

يَخۡرُجُ مِنۢ بَيۡنِ ٱلصُّلۡبِ وَٱلتَّرَآئِبِ

7.         Yakhruju mim bainissulbi wat taraaa’ib
Emerging from between the backbone and the ribs.

 

Yusuf Ali:
Proceeding from between the backbone and the ribs:

Abul Ala Maududi:
emanating from between the loins and the ribs.

Muhsin Khan:
Proceeding from between the back-bone and the ribs,

Pickthall:
That issued from between the loins and ribs.

Dr. Ghali:
Going out between the loins (Or: backbone) and the breastbones.

Abdul Haleem:
then he emerges from between the backbone and breastbone:

Muhammad Junagarhi:
جو پیٹھ اور سینے کے درمیان سے نکلتا ہے

Suhel Farooq Khan:
जो पीठ और सीने की हड्डियों के बीच में से निकलता है

Abdullah Muhammad Basmeih:
Yang keluar dari “tulang sulbi” lelaki dan “tulang dada” perempuan.

إِنَّهُۥ عَلَىٰ رَجۡعِهِۦ لَقَادِرٞ

8.         Innahoo ‘alaa raj’ihee laqaadir
Indeed, Allah, to return him [to life], is Able.

 

Yusuf Ali:
Surely (Allah) is able to bring him back (to life)!

Abul Ala Maududi:
Surely He (the Creator) has the power to bring him back (to life).

Muhsin Khan:
Verily, (Allah) is Able to bring him back (to life)!

Pickthall:
Lo! He verily is Able to return him (unto life)

Dr. Ghali:
Surely He is indeed Determiner over his return (to life).

Abdul Haleem:
God is certainly able to bring him back to life.

Muhammad Junagarhi:
بیشک وه اسے پھیر ﻻنے پر یقیناً قدرت رکھنے واﻻ ہے

Suhel Farooq Khan:
बेशक ख़ुदा उसके दोबारा (पैदा) करने पर ज़रूर कुदरत रखता है

Abdullah Muhammad Basmeih:
Sesungguhnya Allah Maha Kuasa untuk mengembalikannya (hidup semula sesudah mati),

يَوۡمَ تُبۡلَى ٱلسَّرَآئِرُ

9.         Yawma tublas saraaa’ir
The Day when secrets will be put on trial,

 

Yusuf Ali:
The Day that (all) things secret will be tested,

Abul Ala Maududi:
On the Day when man’s deepest secrets shall be put to the test

Muhsin Khan:
The Day when all the secrets (deeds, prayers, fasting, etc.) will be examined (as to their truth).

Pickthall:
On the day when hidden thoughts shall be searched out.

Dr. Ghali:
On the Day when secret thoughts and actions are tried,

Abdul Haleem:
On the Day when secrets are laid bare

Muhammad Junagarhi:
جس دن پوشیده بھیدوں کی جانچ پڑتال ہوگی

Suhel Farooq Khan:
जिस दिन दिलों के भेद जाँचे जाएँगे

Abdullah Muhammad Basmeih:
Pada hari didedahkan segala yang terpendam di hati (dari iktiqad, niat, dan lain-lainnya),

فَمَا لَهُۥ مِن قُوَّةٖ وَلَا نَاصِرٖ

10.     Famaa lahoo min quwwatinw wa laa naasir
Then man will have no power or any helper.

 

Yusuf Ali:
(Man) will have no power, and no helper.

Abul Ala Maududi:
he shall have no power, and no helper.

Muhsin Khan:
Then will (man) have no power, nor any helper.

Pickthall:
Then will he have no might nor any helper.

Dr. Ghali:
Then in no way will he have any power or any vindicator.

Abdul Haleem:
he will have no power and no one to help him.

Muhammad Junagarhi:
تو نہ ہوگا اس کے پاس کچھ زور نہ مدددگار

Suhel Farooq Khan:
तो (उस दिन) उसका कुछ ज़ोर चलेगा और कोई मददगार होगा

Abdullah Muhammad Basmeih:
Maka (pada saat itu) tidak ada bagi manusia sebarang kekuatan (untuk membela diri), dan tidak ada penolong (yang dapat memberikan pertolongan).

وَٱلسَّمَآءِ ذَاتِ ٱلرَّجۡعِ

11.     Wassamaaa’i zaatir raj’
By the sky which returns [rain]

 

Yusuf Ali:
By the Firmament which returns (in its round),

Abul Ala Maududi:
By the heaven with its recurring cycle of rain,

Muhsin Khan:
By the sky (having rain clouds) which gives rain, again and again.

Pickthall:
By the heaven which giveth the returning rain,

Dr. Ghali:
By the heaven comprising the returning (rain) (Or: the rotating rain),

Abdul Haleem:
By the sky and its recurring rain,

Muhammad Junagarhi:
بارش والے آسمان کی قسم!

Suhel Farooq Khan:
चक्कर (खाने) वाले आसमान की क़सम

Abdullah Muhammad Basmeih:
Demi langit yang berulang-ulang mencurahkan hujan,

وَٱلۡأَرۡضِ ذَاتِ ٱلصَّدۡعِ

12.     Wal ardi zaatis sad’
And [by] the earth which cracks open,

 

Yusuf Ali:
And by the Earth which opens out (for the gushing of springs or the sprouting of vegetation),-

Abul Ala Maududi:
and by the earth ever bursting with verdure,

Muhsin Khan:
And the earth which splits (with the growth of trees and plants),

Pickthall:
And the earth which splitteth (with the growth of trees and plants)

Dr. Ghali:
And by the earth comprising crevices (producing verdure),

Abdul Haleem:
by the earth that cracks open!

Muhammad Junagarhi:
اور پھٹنے والی زمین کی قسم!

Suhel Farooq Khan:
और फटने वाली (ज़मीन की क़सम)

Abdullah Muhammad Basmeih:
Dan bumi yang merekah mengeluarkan tumbuh-tumbuhan,

إِنَّهُۥ لَقَوۡلٞ فَصۡلٞ

13.     Innahoo laqawlun fasl
Indeed, the Qur’an is a decisive statement,

 

Yusuf Ali:
Behold this is the Word that distinguishes (Good from Evil):

Abul Ala Maududi:
this (Qur’an) is surely a decisive Word,

Muhsin Khan:
Verily! This (the Quran) is the Word that separates (the truth from falsehood, and commands strict legal laws for mankind to cut the roots of evil).

Pickthall:
Lo! this (Qur’an) is a conclusive word,

Dr. Ghali:
Surely (the Qur’an) is indeed a Verdict address (Literally: a decisive Saying).

Abdul Haleem:
This is truly a decisive statement;

Muhammad Junagarhi:
بیشک یہ (قرآن) البتہ دو ٹوک فیصلہ کرنے واﻻ کلام ہے

Suhel Farooq Khan:
बेशक ये क़ुरान क़ौले फ़ैसल है

Abdullah Muhammad Basmeih:
Sesungguhnya keterangan Al-Quran adalah kata-kata pemutus (yang sebenar),

وَمَا هُوَ بِٱلۡهَزۡلِ

14.     Wa maa huwa bil hazl
And it is not amusement.

 

Yusuf Ali:
It is not a thing for amusement.

Abul Ala Maududi:
not a flippant jest.

Muhsin Khan:
And it is not a thing for amusement.

Pickthall:
It is no pleasantry.

Dr. Ghali:
And in no way is it mere joking.

Abdul Haleem:
it is not something to be taken lightly.

Muhammad Junagarhi:
یہ ہنسی کی (اور بے فائده) بات نہیں

Suhel Farooq Khan:
और लग़ो नहीं है

Abdullah Muhammad Basmeih:
Dan bukanlah ia kata-kata yang olok-olok.

إِنَّهُمۡ يَكِيدُونَ كَيۡدٗا

15.     Innahum yakeedoona kaidaa
Indeed, they are planning a plan,

 

Yusuf Ali:
As for them, they are but plotting a scheme,

Abul Ala Maududi:
They are devising a guile,

Muhsin Khan:
Verily, they are but plotting a plot (against you O Muhammad (Peace be upon him)).

Pickthall:
Lo! they plot a plot (against thee, O Muhammad)

Dr. Ghali:
Surely they are plotting (evil) plots,

Abdul Haleem:
They plot and scheme,

Muhammad Junagarhi:
البتہ کافر داؤ گھات میں ہیں

Suhel Farooq Khan:
बेशक ये कुफ्फ़ार अपनी तदबीर कर रहे हैं

Abdullah Muhammad Basmeih:
Sesungguhnya mereka (yang menentangmu, wahai Muhammad) bermati-mati menjalankan rancangan jahat,

وَأَكِيدُ كَيۡدٗا

16.     Wa akeedu kaidaa
But I am planning a plan.

 

Yusuf Ali:
And I am planning a scheme.

Abul Ala Maududi:
and I too am devising a guile.

Muhsin Khan:
And I (too) am planning a plan.

Pickthall:
And I plot a plot (against them).

Dr. Ghali:
And I am plotting (vengeful) plots.

Abdul Haleem:
but so do I:

Muhammad Junagarhi:
اور میں بھی ایک چال چل رہا ہوں

Suhel Farooq Khan:
और मैं अपनी तद्बीर कर रहा हूँ

Abdullah Muhammad Basmeih:
Dan Aku pula tetap bertindak membalas rancangan jahat (mereka, dan menggagalkannya).

فَمَهِّلِ ٱلۡكَٰفِرِينَ أَمۡهِلۡهُمۡ رُوَيۡدَۢا

17.     Famahhilil kaafireena amhilhum ruwaidaa
So allow time for the disbelievers. Leave them awhile.
